Player code of conduct

As part of the GSSL community, it is important to treat our members, staff and referees with respect and dignity.

They work tirelessly so that GSSL continues to offer an enjoyable and competitive playing experience for our teams and players. Please remember our staff does a lot to ensure the success of each season and we appreciate all of their hard work. Team managers, please make sure you and your players treat staff, referees and members with patience, gratitude and kindness. GSSL wants all to have a good experience participating in our league and enjoy this great game of soccer we all love to play!

GSSL Community Standards

& Field Use Expectations

As members of the Greater Seattle Soccer League, we all share a responsibility to protect and strengthen the game we love.

Every player, coach, captain, spectator, and supporter represents not only the GSSL, but also the broader adult sports community throughout Seattle, and poor behavior threatens field-use for everyone.

To maintain positive relationships with the city and preserve access to the limited fields, all participants and spectators are expected to follow city and league policies, including:

  • No alcohol consumption at fields where it is prohibited, especially at Seattle Public Schools.

  • No smoking, vaping, or use of tobacco products on or around playing fields.

  • No dogs or pets on Seattle soccer fields where they are not permitted.

  • Compliance with all Seattle Parks and Recreation rules, field regulations, and permit requirements.

Equally important, all participants must treat Seattle Parks staff, city employees, referees, field monitors, contractors, and anyone responsible for maintaining or managing the facilities with courtesy and respect. Disrespectful, confrontational, or abusive behavior toward those who support and oversee our playing spaces is unacceptable and reflects poorly on the entire soccer community. They work hard to keep our playing spaces not only available, but clean, well maintained, and accessible to everyone.

Seattle faces a significant shortage of athletic fields, and adult leagues often operate on the margins of city-wide scheduling priorities. When individuals ignore policies or engage in inappropriate behavior, it jeopardizes access not only for our league, but for every adult sports organization that depends on these facilities. Poor conduct can lead to restrictions, loss of field access, and fewer opportunities for everyone to play.

We are fortunate to be part of one of the strongest and most vibrant soccer communities in the country. That reputation has been built through years of commitment, sportsmanship, and partnership with the City of Seattle. Protecting that legacy requires all of us to demonstrate respect, responsibility, and professionalism both on and off the field.

Our actions matter. By ensuring that we all follow field rules, treating others with respect, and serving as positive ambassadors for the game, we help ensure that adult soccer continues to thrive in Seattle for years to come.
