GSSL Announcement - Improving the League and Growing for the Future

The post-pandemic era has been challenging for many nonprofits including our own. With your help and the dedication of our staff - we continue to provide an exceptional recreational soccer league.  Now, after 50 years, we have an opportunity to take a deep dive and look at ways to modernize how we run the league. This may include—

  • Improving the team registration experience
  • The game and field scheduling process
  • Controlling operating costs
  • Integrating new program offerings like Walking Soccer and Women’s Divisions. We believe we can do this better while providing the great level of service you, as members, have come to expect.

The GSSL Board has taken a bold step forward with an eye on the future and how to best serve our greater Seattle soccer community. We have launched an organizational assessment focused on understanding the League’s strengths and identifying areas for improvement, so we can continue to provide players the most positive recreational experience possible.

Here are a few of the key outcomes we expect from the assessment:

  • Identify opportunities to improve:
    • The player experience
    • Increase organizational efficiency including scheduling referees and games and the player registration process
  • Document GSSL processes and procedures
  • Identify performance metrics to measure success as a League and a governing body
  • Deep analysis of the league revenue, expenses, budgeting, financials, and accounting practices
  • A 12-month implementation plan for synthesizing recommendations and next steps

Armed with this information, we will develop strategies based on real data, with input from you, our members and stakeholders. The plan will include recommendations along with implementation to create a clear vision of our future and how to get there.

This League is for you, and your participation is needed to ensure your voice is heard. In the next few weeks, you will receive a survey that we encourage you to complete. We will also be working with a smaller group of stakeholders, including players, referees, and field coordinators to conduct comprehensive interviews. This will allow us to gain deeper understanding of our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. We expect the full assessment to conclude by March of 2023.

For more than 50 years, the GSSL has been the most competitive adult amateur league in the Greater Seattle area, offering quality programming for every age and player type. We intend to keep this tradition alive with a thorough and thoughtful analysis of the organization and action needed to make long-term improvements.

On behalf of the GSSL Board and League staff, thank you in advance for your time and contributions, helping us make GSSL the best Seattle adult soccer league.

Sincerely, Chairman of the Board
